📜 Origins

Activities in education and training play a fundamental role in enabling people of all ages to actively participate in the labour market and society.

In 1987, the Erasmus programme was launched on the initiative of AEGEE and supported by governments such as France and Spain, the European Region;Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students was launched, and whose acronym, ERASMUS, coincided with the Latin name of the humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam.

👉 When the program was approved through a Decision of the European Council of June 15, 1987, only twelve countries participated, but what began as a contact between a few universities, has become one of the best-known European mobility programs.

The current Erasmus+ programme (2021–2027) has a budget of over €26 billion and aims to support over 10 million participants.

Erasmus+ is the European Union programme for education, training, youth and sport. In the field of Education and Training, it offers opportunities in all educational sectors: Higher Education, Professional Training, School Education and Adult Education.
